NEW WAY OF WORKING @ VLAS-2018: A RENEWED ORGANISATION IN A NEW POLICE STATION, OR IS IT THE OTHER WAY AROUND? (NL)
In September 2018, the three current and outdated police stations in Kortrijk will disappear and be merged into one completely new and functional police station at the current site of the Howest University College West Flanders, more specifically at the campus ‘Drie Hofsteden’. Apart from the police stations in Kuurne and Lendelede, all the services will be centralised in one single location.
Back to overview
It is a story of fundamentals and foundations, of structure and infrastructure.
At the end of 2014, the plan was still to do a limited renovation and to add a new building. Also in 2014, an external audit showed that an internal renovation of the organisation was necessary too.
At the beginning of 2015, the scope of challenges was expanded and the ante was upped: both objectives were combined into one project. The Vlas police zone was to be subjected to a migration on an organisational level. To that end, an optimal building would be designed.
After delineating the strategic frame, a new functioning within a renewed police force structure was worked out as from 2016, tailored to the needs of a modern police organisation and for the benefit of the residents of Kortrijk, Kuurne and Lendelede.
Completely simultaneously, the start-up of a construction file was prepared, in which the (planned) new organisation was to be integrated. On 6 March 2017 the dismantlement and the demolition of the current university college building in Kortrijk was started. During these demolition works, the construction of the new police station was initiated.
The (Infopol) link between both ‘files’ is in a New Way Of Working (NWOW), which is to be implemented in the new police station right from the very start. Generally, it is about the daily operation and the optimal use of the work locations, about an advanced digital police approach, both in the field as well as in the building, all supported and tailored to one another by means of a hypermodern and future-oriented ICT platform. In addition to that, there is also plenty of attention for the quality and the content of the police work of and for the employees.
The move to the new police station will take place in the beginning of September 2018. Has the new police station been tailored to the renewed organisation, or is it the other way around?
