Forensic and technical research

Canon offers a wide range of products for forensic and technical photography and videography, both for 2D and 3D images. Our products help in collecting legally admissible evidence, among other things thanks to the support of RAW formats, accurate metadata, and support for the C2PA/CAI initiatives.

We highlight a few key products for technical and forensic research:

Cameras: Canon has an exceptionally wide portfolio of user-friendly photo, video, and specialized cameras. A particularly strong point of almost all Canon cameras is the light sensitivity, which allows them to capture usable, detailed images even in very low light. In addition to regular cameras, Canon also offers full spectrum cameras for working with or under UV and IR light. Thanks to these cameras, it is possible to reveal much more image information than with standard cameras.

Lenses: Canon provides a very wide range of lenses, with macro lenses being particularly suitable for forensic photography where capturing details of traces, fibers, and small artifacts is of great importance.

Flash units: In addition to standard flash units, Canon also provides ring flashes and twin flashes specifically for illuminating traces, injuries, or small objects, enabling very controlled lighting for, among other things, macro photography.

Printers: Canon has an extensive range of professional printers that are known for their true-to-life and consistent image reproduction. In addition, prints can be preserved for up to 100 years, which is convenient for archiving or presentation.

Software Development Kit: Thanks to the Canon Camera SDK (Software Development Kit), Canon cameras can be integrated into specific solutions, for example for 3D photogrammetry where multiple cameras together map an object or environment. The Canon Printer SDK enables developers to also include Canon printers in specific workflows.
